Study Abroad ScholarshipsThere are a number of scholarships to help you pay for studying abroad. We have listed some of the most well-known scholarships, but you can also search for scholarships at http://www.studyabroadfunding.org/. The following scholarships and grants may apply toward your study abroad program! Please note that you may be eligible for more than one scholarship or grant. Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
Awards of up to $5,000 for study abroad programs of at least 28 days. Apply early! Eligibility: Must be on Pell Grant. 4 -week study abroad or longer. Emphasis on non-traditional destinations (outside of Western Europe) and students with diverse backgrounds, but anyone on a Pell Grant can apply. National Security Education Program (NSEP) Boren Awards Scholarship awards of up to $20,000. Apply early! Eligibility: 8-week study abroad or longer. U.S. citizenship. Awarded for study outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. Requires service in U.S. after study abroad. Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships Academic-year scholarships of up to $25,000 sponsored by the Rotary Foundation. Contact the New Orleans Rotary Club to begin the Ambassadorial scholarship application. Eligibility: Year-long study abroad. Contact Rotary Club for additional requirements. Foundation for Global Scholars Study abroad awards from $500-$2000. Late deadlines. Eligibility: Open to U.S. citizens studying abroad short-term, summer, semester, or year. Programs can be less than four weeks long. Global Studies Foundation Student Grant Study abroad grants for $1,000. July 1 deadline every year. Eligibility: Open to U.S. citizens studying abroad short-term, summer, semester, or year. Programs can be less than four weeks long. Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships The newly established Fund for Education Abroad will begin offering scholarships for students starting with the 2011/2012 academic year. Eligibility: U.S. citizenship. 4-week study abroad or longer. Glimpse Correspondents Program Grants Submit articles, stories, blogs, photographs and/or video footage from your time abroad to Glimpse Magazine in exchange for a $600 stipend. Eligibility: Open to all study abroad participants. Diversity Abroad Scholarships $500 scholarships for summer, semester or year study abroad programs. Open to economically-disadvantaged students, students of diverse backgrounds, and/or students studying abroad in non-traditional destinations. Eligibility: U.S. citizens or permanent residents studying with an Diversity Abroad partner organization (non-Loyola programs).
LIVFund
LIVFund scholarships support student learning, internships, and volunteer opportunities in Latin America. Applications are accepted year-round. LIVFund awards two $500 scholarships monthly. Eligibility: Open to all students studying, interning, or volunteering in Latin America. Freeman-ASIA Freeman-ASIA awards up to $3,000 per summer, $5,000 per semester, or $7,000 per year for study abroad in Asia. Eligibility: Open to U.S. citizens studying in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam for a summer, semester, or year. Bridging Scholarship for Japan Bridging Scholarship recipients receive $2,500 per semester of $4,000 per year for study abroad in Japan. Eligibility: Open to U.S. citizens studying in Japan for a semester or year. Morgan Stanley Scholarship for Japan Morgan Stanley recipients receive $7,500 per year for study abroad in Japan. Eligibility: Juniors and Seniors at U.S. universities who will be studying abroad in Japan for an academic year. CODOFIL Awards for Study in French-Speaking Countries CODOFIL awards several full scholarships for programs in France, Belgium, and Canada. Visit the website for information on programs and awards. Eligibility: U.S. citizens or permanent residents. DAAD Scholarship for Study in Germany DAAD administers several scholarship programs for programs in Germany. Eligibility: Open to students studying, interning, or conducting research in Germany. BUTEX Scholarship for Study in the U.K. BUTEX awards £500 scholarships for study abroad in the U.K. Eligibility: Open to students currently registered at a U.S. university who will be studying abroad at a UK university which is affiliated with BUTEX. Please visit the BUTEX website for a list of affiliates. ASF Grants and Awards for Study in Scandinavia Grant recipients receive up to $5,000 for study abroad in Scandinavia. Eligibility: U.S. citizens or permanent residents studying in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland. Study Abroad Turkey Scholarships for Minority Students TCA awards up to $2,000 for minority students studying in Turkey for a summer, semester, or year. Eligibility: African American, Hispanic American, and Native American students studying abroad in Turkey. Hispanic College Fund Scholarship Programs Scholarship opportunities for students with Hispanic background. Each scholarship has different eligibility requirements and award amounts vary. Eligibility: Varies by scholarship. The National Italian American Foundation Scholarship Programs Scholarship awards of up to $12,000 for Italian American students. Eligibility: Varies by scholarship.
