Study Abroad in 5 Simple Steps
Step 1: Meet with your Peer Advisor or Study Abroad Advisor
Schedule a meeting with an advisor. We will discuss:- Program basics and deadlines
- Program Types
- Financial Aid and Study Abroad and Study Abroad Scholarships
- Courses and Credits
- The application process and your next steps!
- Apply for a Passport if needed!
- Research and review specific programs that meet your degree and financial requirements
- Narrow down your top 3 program choices
- Do they offer the courses needed for your major?
- Does the cost of the program fit your financial situation?
- If you have any difficulty making a decision, please make an appointment with the Study Abroad Advisor to discuss financial and academic fit.
Step 2: Start Your Application
8–10 months prior to departure- If you're applying to a Loyola Program, start your application by clicking "apply now" on the program page.
- If you're applying to a non-Loyola or ISEP program, email your Study Abroad Advisor. They will open an application for you.
- Applicants for non-Loyola and ISEP programs must have an application set up through the Loyola study abroad website in order to receive credit for courses taken abroad.
Step 3: Interview with Loyola Faculty
4-6 months prior- Once you’ve completed and submitted your Loyola application, you will discuss your plans and motivations with a faculty committee.
Step 4: Complete Requirements for your Host Institution/Program Provider
If you are going on a Loyola Program, CIE will nominate you to one of our partner universities abroad. The host university will contact you directly with instructions for completing their application process and notify you of acceptance. Be patient, as it could take a few weeks before you are accepted to your selected university.If you are going on an ISEP or Non-Loyola Program, make sure all acceptance packages are completed and signed. ISEP or your program provider will nominate you to your host institution directly. After you're nominated and approved, you will receive emails directly from your host institution about orientation, courses, etc.

Step 5: Attend Pre-Departure Orientation
You are required to attend Pre-Departure Orientation in-person with all other students who are going abroad in order to be approved to study abroad.
