Types of Programs

Semester and Year

Loyola students have a variety of programs to choose from when going abroad for a semester or year:
  • Loyola Exchange: You study at one of our established partner universities, pay tuition at Loyola, and can use all of your tuition financial aid. You pay room and board in your host country. To see a chart of Loyola Exchange programs by available academics and language of instruction, click here.
  • Loyola Study Abroad Programs: Some of our partners have limited exchange spots but you can still go as a "study abroad student".  As a study abroad student you will be billed a set tuition fee for your institution.  The specific amount is available on the budget information of your program page.  While your scholarships will not apply, any federal and state aid that you have will apply. Many students have found this more economical than going on an exchange program.  Current programs with study abroad options are Australian Catholic University, Massey University, and Maynooth University.
  • ISEP Exchange and Direct: ISEP provides Loyola students with opportunities to study at hundreds of institutions in over 50 countries. Students on ISEP Exchange programs pay Loyola tuition, room, and board and can use all of their scholarships and financial aid. Students on ISEP Direct programs pay program tuition and can use federal aid. You can find more information about the Loyola process for ISEP on the ISEP Program Page.  Visit www.isepstudyabroad.org to learn more about your options.
  • Non-Loyola Study Abroad Programs: If you do not find a Loyola program that meets your needs, you can choose a study abroad program through another accredited university or third-party provider. You will need to get the program approved by CIE. Your Loyola scholarships will not apply, but your federal aid will. Credit will be awarded upon receipt of an official transcript.

Generally students don't have any financial aid or scholarships for use in the summer, but if they do (including Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits), then it can be used for these programs.
  • Loyola Exchange Partner Summer Programs: You can also go on summer programs through our established partner universities. Program length and cost varies. Generally students don't have any financial aid or scholarships for use in the summer, but if they do, then it can be used for these programs.
