Director, CIE

Mariette Thomas is Director of the Center for International Education (CIE). Mariette is responsible for the ongoing management of CIE including education abroad programs, international student and scholar services and programs and all immigration-related issues, as well as providing leadership in planning, implementing, and assessing activities associated with international education. In addition, she is actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the office, including but not limited to advising students and faculty, working with Loyola faculty study abroad directors, developing new exchange and faculty-led programs, risk management, marketing, and budgeting.

Mariette has served in a variety of leadership positions in her professional association, NAFSA: Association of International Educators, at the national and regional level. She has also served as a volunteer leader for Diversity Abroad and the Global Leadership League.

Mariette holds a MA in International Relations from University of the Pacific and a BA in International Studies from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. As a student, she studied abroad in Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico and Nicaragua. She has worked abroad in China, India, Israel, Russia and Singapore and has traveled to over 40 countries. Prior to joining the Loyola community, Mariette worked at Tulane University, ArtCenter College of Design, Babson College, the Institute for Study Abroad – Butler University (IFSA-Butler), and International Studies Abroad (ISA).
