The university has a lively campus with a host of social and cultural activities throughout the year. Exchange students have the opportunity to take courses in a variety of subjects, including science, business, and humanities.
Istanbul is the 5th largest city in the world. It is truly a "megacity" that serves as the cultural, economic, and financial center of Turkey. Istanbul is located on the Bosporus Strait and encompasses the natural harbor known as the "Golden Horn". The city extends both on the European (Thrace) and on The Asian (Anatolia) sides of the strait making it the only city in the world situated on two continents.
In its long history, Istanbul has served as the capital city of the Roman Empire (330-395), The Eastern Roman (byzantine) Empire (395-1204 and 1261-1453), the Latin Empire (1204-1261), and the Ottoman Empire (1453-1922).
