The University and Location

Sophia University is a Jesuit institution centered in the excitement of Tokyo, Japan. Taking full advantage of its location, Sophia University combines classroom instruction with opportunities to explore the city. Loyola students at Sophia take classes with local students, as well as with other international students. Students attending this program should have completed at least one year of university-level Japanese language coursework.

With over 12 million people, Tokyo is the world’s most populous metropolis. A city of rich history and tradition, it also maintains a unique passion for renewal and reinvention. Living and studying in the heart of the city, students at Sophia have easy access to all of the museums, restaurants, art galleries, and historical sites that make Tokyo a world-class city. Nearby access to a half-dozen train lines makes cultural, volunteer, and internship activities easily accessible from Sophia’s campus.

Sophia offers over 150 courses in English. Students have to opportunity to take classes with Japanese students in addition to enrolling in intensive language courses. Click here to see course list.
